Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)

Peritoneal dialysis uses the body's own peritoneum to filter waste and fluid from your blood into the dialysis solution.  It requires a soft flexible tube called a peritoneal dialysis catheter to be placed in your abdomen.  The therapy can be done manually throughout the day or at night while you sleep through a small machine.  Training is required by a peritoneal dialysis nurse so that you can do this type of dialysis at home.  After you are trained you return to the clinic once or twice a month for follow up.  Trained personnel are on call to help you 24 hours a day.
